Bag Tag Bonanza Wrap Up
Thank you to everyone from coming out to the Bag Tag Bonanza yesterday. This event is one of my favorite of the year as it always seems to celebrate the Devens community getting bigger and stronger. I'm extremely proud to be part of it. I think this year ran smoothly and was fair for all involved. The hardest part is trying to do everything correctly in such a small amount of time and I can only image we will grow again next year so i'd like to try out a little bit of automation during the check in and maybe score reporting but other than that I'll likely keep things similar. Does anyone have any suggested changes?
We always seem to have too much food at the Bonanza but everyone must have been extra hungry this year. Here's one more stat for the season. 77 people barreled through 32 pizzas!
The Bonanza 24 hole layout proved to be difficult once again. Only Aaron Little was able to shoot under par and that secured him an A pool season victory!
We had $168 bucks in the ace pot and nobody hit so we did a throw off for it. We paid out $56 each to Ken Gary, Art Blanchard & Josh St. Denis as they had the closest shots.

Lunch:
Devens DGC will provide lunch for all players at the Bag Tag
Bonanza. Lunch will consist of Pizza, cookies, soda/water.
Raffle Procedure:
You will receive an entry into the raffle for every league
night you attended. You will also receive an additional entry for every ace you
hit during the season. I will provide a spreadsheet with your assigned raffle #’s
and will use a random # generator on my
phone to select the winning entries. I’ll need someone to generate the #’s and
another person to verify the # on the phone and spreadsheet.
Season Points Leaders:
Current Pool Leaders. I will put all
appropriate players together at Bonanza so they can continue to battle it out.
Alex and Aaron will play together. Frank, Donnie and John Bon will play
together. Gator, Jared and Brandon will play together. Jesse, Rich and Anthony
will play together. Jackie, Fallon and Ashley will play together. In some
instances, I will be moving players back to their starting pool so that they
can play in direct competition for the top 3 points. For example, in B pool
both Jared and Brandon moved up during the season but I will be moving them
back into B pool so their battle for 1st, 2nd and 3rd
can be more direct. Jesse and Rich will also be moving back to C pool as well
for the Bonanza.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 30 Results
ONLY ONE WEEK LEFT OF LEAGUE. Wednesday October 7th will be our last day of official league though I hope to still get people out on Wednesday at 4pm for random doubles on the hill for 2 or 3 weeks.
51 players this week. Not bad at all for a bad weather forecast and a 4:30 start.
Start time will be staying to 4:30 on the Hill and the General will cut off at 4:15. ALL 3somes for both courses so plan ahead for your General groups. Please only check in for the General with a set group of 3 players that are present and ready to hand over tag and cash and be ready check in with your group as early as possible. It's going to be a zoo trying to get everyone checked in betwen 4 and 4:30 and I appreciate any help in keeping it orderly.
Bag Tag Bonanza! Don't forget that you receive a raffle ticket for each league night you attend. Here is a wrap up post for last years Bonanza. Look at all these prizes! Give yourself the best shot at going home with something by attending as often as possible. Lots of people have been playing often without a tag and now is the time to buy yours so you can be eligible to play in the Bonanza and win raffle prizes. I have about 15 tags left. I'm working on a large Devens Disc Golf sticker for your car and a pint glass with the grenade logo on it for the players pack this year. Also throwing in a birdie bag for everyone too.

Here is another league status report
We still have 8 people with perfect attendance:
John Rodenhizer
Joe Decarolis
Dean Onners
Josh St. Denis
Jared Reinke
Sam Misuraca
Brian Hagan
Jeremy Draeger
Our Average attendance is 66.43 players per week and we have had a total of 1,993 players over 30 weeks. 211 unique players and 159 tags sold. Both the total unique players and tags sold are higher than all of last year already and the 66.43 players per week is about 6.75 more players per day than last year. In fact, we have already broken every attendance record this year and if we get 7 or more players next week we will break the 2000 player mark for the year. Let's get at least 57 so we can break the 2,050 mark!
Current Pool Leaders:
A Pool (5 points still available plus the Bonanza. Aaron and Alex have the 1 and 2 spot locked up between them and there is a race happening for 1st place and 3rd place. If both Aaron and Alex come to league next week I will put them on the same card to battle it out. Hole 1 sounds like an appropriate starting hole for these guys! Bill and John Bon both need to sweep the win on the final week and Bonanza and get lucky with no other points above them and Frank needs to play well to pad his third place standing)
Aaron Little - 93 points
Alex Gula - 88
Frank Strauss - 63
Donnie Phillips - 60 (donnie won't be at league next week)
Bill Bertera - 54
John Buonsanto - 54
B Pool (5 points still up for grabs plus the Bonanza. All 3 guys have locked up a spot in the top 3 but none of the spots are solid. I'll put all 3 guys on the same card next week if they want.)
Jared Reincke - 82 points
Brandon Bowen - 74
Gator Holmes -73
C Pool (3 points still up for grabs plus the Bonanza. Jesse has the 1st place spot locked up and Rich has 2nd locked up unless Anthony goes on a tear with 2 wins and a bunch of aces. Still a 3 way race for the other top 3 spot)
Jesse Cleary - 77 points
Rich Spinale - 60
Anthony Frongillo - 52
Alex MacLean - 45
Sean Coyne - 44
Womens Pool (3 points remaining plus the Bonanza. The top 3 ladies spots are locked but there could be plenty of movement within the top 3. Ashley can only reach 2nd now. Would all 3 girls like to play together next week)
Jacki Bogan - 64 points
Fallon Enman - 59
Ashley Toomey - 56
ACES (worth additional point in standings & $$)

Another 64 players on Wednesday. Sean Parlon aces hole 1 on the Hill for $48 bucks. So many weeks in a row with an ace!
Start time will be shifting 4:45 on the Hill and the General will cut off at 4:30. ALL 3somes for both courses so plan ahead for your General groups.

Current Pool Leaders:
A Pool (15 points still up for grabs plus the Bonanza. Alex is still catching up to Aaron who is out of attendance points. Aaron needs to put some points on the board if Alex keeps up with his current pace. Most likely, these two guys have the top 2 spots locked up and Frank and Donnie are battling for 3rd place. Anything can happen though as the points are still available if any of the chasers hits a hot streak)

Jared Reincke - 80 points
Brandon Bowen - 74
Gator Holmes -63
Corey Johnson - 60
Adam Stander - 46
C Pool (9 points still up for grabs plus the Bonanza. Jesse and Rich have moved to B pool so points will be a bit harder to come by. B pool points are a higher value so if they do place in B it adds up a bit quicker in C so if they continue to place in B pool they could win a final 3 payout in C pool. All competitors except Rich (0) have a solid amount of attendance points remaining as well. Alex, Jesse and Anthony added a bunch of points this week)
Jesse Cleary - 73 points
Rich Spinale - 57
Anthony Frongillo - 51
Alex MacLean - 45
Sean Coyne - 43
Womens Pool (9 points remaining plus the Bonanza though sometimes Toomey plays in B pool and can rack up 5 points for placing there. Pretty sure the top 3 women as shown below are locked into the top spots, Toomey could continue to play lights out and move into second place or perhaps even first!)
Jacki Bogan - 59 points

Coggshall Workday - Saturday October 3rd
Our sister course, Coggshall Park in Fitchburg is having a big workday on Saturday October 3rd. Please consider helping Coggshall get into the shape it deserves to be in! I'm told the work will mainly be concentrated on cleaning up hole 9 but if we get enough people we can get more stuff off the punch list.
Devens has just donated $200 to Coggs for rental equipment and other various workday supplies so please show up to lend a hand and put your money to good use.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 27 Results
Another 67 players last night! It's great to see the numbers continue even with the earlier starts. Tim Humphrey aces hole 10 for the $50 ace pot. Maybe we can let that pot build a bit?? 4 aces in the last 3 weeks.
Start time will be shifting 5:00 on the Hill and we will keep the General cut off to 4:45pm. ALL 3somes for both courses so plan ahead for your General groups.

Our Average attendance is 67.2 players per week and we have had a total of 1,814 players over 27 weeks. 208 unique players and 158 tags sold. Both the total unique players and tags sold are higher than all of last year already and the 67.2 players per week is about 7.5 more players per day than last year. In fact, once we get 13 people signed in next week we will have passed the attendance record from the year before as well!
Current Pool Leaders:
A Pool (20 points still up for grabs plus the Bonanza.
Aaron Little - 89 points
Alex Gula - 74
Frank Strauss - 59
Donnie Phillips - 54
Bill Bertera - 49
Taylor Maslowski - 48
Bob Kulchuk - 43
B Pool (20 points still up for grabs plus the Bonanza. Not much changed this week as we only added attendance points to Gator, Adam and Ryan. Jared and Ryan are out of attendance points and Brandon and Adam only has one left. Gator will accumulate points each week he plays.)
Jared Reincke - 80 points
Brandon Bowen - 73
Gator Holmes -60
Corey Johnson - 59
Adam Stander - 46
Ryan Shevlin - 42
C Pool (12 points still up for grabs plus the Bonanza. Jesse padded his lead with a B pool win last night and Rich and Anthony added points with high finishes as well)
Jesse Cleary - 68 points
Rich Spinale - 57
Anthony Frongillo - 47
Sean Coyne - 42
Alex MacLean - 39
Womens Pool (12 points remaining plus the Bonanza though sometimes Toomey plays in B pool and can rack up 5 points for placing there. Pretty sure the top 3 women as shown below are locked into the top spots, Toomey could continue to play lights out and move into second place or perhaps even first!)
Jacki Bogan - 57 points
Fallon Enman - 54
Ashley Toomey - 48

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 26 Results
Pretty good night overall! It was warm but not as muggy as I thought it would be. We had 67 players and there were two aces! Bill Bertera hit hole 18 on the General and Donnie Phillips hit hole 11 on the Hill. 5 weeks left! Come and get your points.. Kim Krieser shoots her personal best score for the second week in a row. Had a small issue with my sorting while distributing tags. My apologies if you got a slightly higher # than you earned. Please, if I skip anyone please let me know so I can fix it earlier and lessen the chain reaction.
Start time will be staying the same on the Hill 5:15 and we will move the General cut off to 4:45pm. ALL 3somes for both courses so plan ahead for your General groups.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 25
We had 78 players on Wednesday with some really nice weather. Low humidity and just enough of a breeze to keep the bugs away. We had our first ace on the General at league. Brian Hagan got his first ever ace on Hole 2 for $120! Ashley Toomey shot a 61 on the General which was only beaten by 2 of the other 26 competitors on that course (and only by one stroke).
Start time will be shifting to 5:15 Hill and 5:00 cuttoff General this coming week. ALL 3somes for both courses so plan ahead for your General groups.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 24 Results
We had 80 players on Wednesday which is our third highest attendance of the leagues existence! Since that # was so high and we still had just enough daylight to finish the rounds we are going to stick with a 5:30 start on the hill but in 3somes as best we can! This means longer starting walks as we need to use more holes. We will stick with 4 somes on the General but move the cut off down to 5pm for that course. Get there early.
I've been having some difficulty with one of my sorting functions which kept the spreadsheet from sorting out the starting tag number field properly. It had something to do with the way the handicap formula was written. This meant that I had to eyeball everyone who fell within a certain score to try and give tags out in the proper order but in the process I have messed up a bunch, especially when there was 5 or more of the same score. When I wasn't able to just simply read the list from top to bottom I often skipped someone or gave out lower tags to the wrong people. I was getting away with this for the most part but its starting to become noticeable so I asked for help and Bill Bertera was able to tell me what I was doing wrong! A simple fix is in place and that shouldn't happen again. Sorry!
I have about 20 tags left. I'm working on a large Devens Disc Golf sticker for your car and a pint glass with the grenade logo on it for the players pack this year. Also throwing in a birdie bag for everyone too.

Jeremy Draeger
Our Average attendance is 66.75 players per week and we have had a total of 1,602 players over 24 weeks. 198 unique players and 151 tags sold. Both the total unique players and tags sold are higher than all of last year already and the 66.75 players per week is about 7 more players per day than last year.
Current Pool Leaders:
A Pool (35 points still up for grabs. Aaron pretty much has first place locked up unless he misses points all weeks and the close chasers win big points every week. He only has 1 attendance point remaining while Frank Alex and others have a few more. Alex has made a huge charge the last 3 weeks so if he keeps it up he can take the top spot! Wouldn't we all like to average a 50 over the last few weeks??)
Aaron Little - 86 points
Alex Gula - 62
Frank Strauss - 53
Donnie Phillips - 46
Taylor Maslowski - 45
Bill Bertera - 43
Bob Kulchuk - 37
Pete Nevius - 34
B Pool (35 points still up for grabs. Jared, Brandon and Corey have all moved up to the A pool so points will be a little harder to come by but they have made some good pushes the last few weeks, especially Jared! At this point, most places could go to any player in contention but if everyone currently below Gator doesn't start racking up points within the next week or two the list will be a lot smaller. Jared, Brandon and Corey are almost out of attendance points but their chasers all have several more coming in. Gator is getting close too!)
Jared Reincke - 79 points

C Pool (21 points still up for grabs. Jesse and Rich have moved to B pool so points will be a bit harder to come by. B pool points are a higher value so if they do place in B it adds up a bit quicker in C so if they continue to place in B pool they could win a final 3 payout in C pool. All competitors have a solid amount of attendance points remaining as well.)
Jesse Cleary - 51 points
Rich Spinale - 50
Sean Coyne - 40
Anthony Frongillo - 36
Alex MacLean - 31
Brian Hagan - 29
Jeremy Draeger - 29
Donald Tucker - 29

Womens Pool (21 points remaining though sometimes Toomey plays in B pool and can rack up 5 points for placing there. Pretty sure Jacki and Fallon have locked up 1st, 2nd or 3rd so its up to Toomey to keep the rest of the chasers out of the top 3! All ladies have plenty of attendance points left.)

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 23 Results
We had 72 players last night. Pretty exciting stuff going on with Frank getting an ace on hole 2 with both sons on his card! 8 new players and 5 new tags sold last night. 3 way tie for first with a 50 as well. We have 8 weeks left and I would absolutely love to hit my goal of 2000 players for the year. We need to average 60 players for the next 8 weeks, think we can do it? Show up over the next 8 weeks, earn your points and we will celebrate a successful year at the Bag Tag Bonanza.
Speaking of the Bag Tag Bonanza! Don't forget that you receive a raffle ticket for each league night you attend. Here is a wrap up post for last years Bonanza. Look at all these prizes! Wednesday Weekly League - Week 22 Results
Sorry for the delayed results. Was on vacation and am finally catching up. Thanks to Bill Bertera for running league for me last week. It is much appreciated. There were 58 players and no aces which brings the pot up to $136 + tomorrows money in.
We only have 9 league nights left for the season and very few 5:30 starts left (2 or 3?) so get out there and get your points and take a shot at the ace pot. Remember that the more you come to league the better chance for you to win raffle prizes during the bag tag bonanza.
Each pools handicap went up significantly last week. Not enough to shift the whole # but it was interesting to see.
Ladies have been playing the General a lot more lately!
Both Jared and Brandon backed up their move to A pool with great scores!
We are working out an issue with access via vehicle on the dirt road. Please refrain from driving down the road to your starting hole for now, thanks! Park at the nest and walk the rest of the way for those far out holes.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 19 Results
We had another relatively light turnout last night with 61 players. Obviously, still great but I am a little baffled at the declining attendance #'s over the last 6 weeks or so. We have had mostly decent weather and we have been doing really well with getting out of there at a reasonable time lately. We actually finished by 8:20 last night so the texting of scores is really helping. I'm always looking for feedback so if there is a reason for the declining #'s I'd like to hear it.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 18 Results
63 players last night. A little low given the nice weather. Thanks to everyone for their cooperation with score reporting and time management. Our last card was reported via text at 8:10 and we did results as they walked in and had payouts done by 8:25. This is a huge improvement and I hope it continues to work this well.

Wednesday Weekly Results - Week 17 Results
We had an impressive 65 players considering a poor forecast. We almost got away without rain but most players ended up playing the last 2-4 holes with some heavy rain.
I have 3 goals for league:
1 - Give everyone something fun and inexpensive to do
2 - Raise $ for our courses and other local courses
3 - Get myself and everyone else on their merry way by 8:30pm
The implementation of the 2nd course at league has been great but it is truly difficult to get everyone to the correct hole and starting with their full group at the right time. Please help me to run this league well by forming your 4some and heading out to your starting hole then starting immediately. The last groups in at the end of the night are typically from the general and I really don't want to cut the General off any earlier than 15 minutes before the hill. I'd also like to have ALL groups from both courses text me their scores as soon as they complete their round and check the scores. I'll write my phone # down on each scorecard. This will help substantially. 617-905-6574 if you wanna store it in your phone now. Text is best.
I feel like we have lost a lot of players who had been coming to this league and I'd be willing to bet many of them would say that the reason they don't come anymore is because it runs too late.

Another beautiful night out at Devens. We had 64 players which was more than I expected with the Maple Hill Open players meeting and pro clinic going on not too far away. Couple of personal best scores out there. Pete Nevius with a great 50, Jared Reinke with a nice 52. Brandon Blanchard also smashed his personal best by 8-9 strokes with a 54..

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 15 Results
Pretty nice weather but we had a lighter turnout than usual. I'm guessing a lot of our players had post Maple Hill Open - AM Side rest going on. For the first time ever we had more players on The General than The Hill. As a result, the hole assignments on the hill were a little messed up because we didn't reach 12 holes with 3 people on them. Seemed like it all worked out though with a little shifting around.
It was essentially the halfway point in the season (15/31 weeks) and we broke 1000 players! 1,005 to be exact. That brings us up to an average of 67 players per week.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 14 Results
Smashed the all time attendance record last night with 89 players. That is 5 more than the previous high of 84 and 11 shy of hitting our $100 for 100 players bounty.
Please help me to get players out on the course as efficiently as possible. If you are playing The General and have a predetermined group of players you wish to play with, please all check in at the exact same time. Once your group is set please go out and start playing immediately. If you wait than there becomes a backup since we only use 3 holes as starting holes on The General. It would be cruel to make people walk to further holes so please help me to help you. Last night the last 4 cards in were all from The General. If your card is coming in after 8:15pm pleeeaaase text me your scores. 617-905-6574
936 players over 14 weeks. That is an average of 66.85 players per week.
Sold another 2 tags and had 7 new players last night. I just counted 160 unique players for the year.

Workday - This Saturday
Reminder that we are having a workday this Saturday June 6th. We will begin at 9am from the Hawks Nest.
We have lots of little projects to be done and need lots of hands in order to complete the work. None of it should be too difficult. If you enjoy our courses, please consider coming out to help with improvements and maintenance.
Sounds like there will be several small groups working on stair repair on hole 9 & hole 16 on The Hill and maybe 2 and 7 on The General.
We will also be adding benches, fixing spool tables and cleaning up trash.
Need hammers, picks, spade shovels, weed whackers, clippers a wheel barrow or two and most of all you!
As usual, the course will provide pizza for lunch and beverages for volunteers.
Thank you!
