2019 Wednesday Weekly League Details

We're only about 6 weeks out from the start of Wednesday Weekly league!

Below you'll find all of the details of this years league along with a run down of the changes.

The tags should be in within a week soon and I'll have them for sale at putting league when they come in.

There still time to get in on the season pass program

Bookmark this page for weekly results, layout changes, etc.

Details
• Wednesdays, starting March 13th
• Initial cost: $20 for a 2019 tag
• Start Time - Hill TBD
• Start Time - General TBD
• Style (Trickle, Shotgun, etc.) TBD
• Course Layout TBD
• Format – Singles stroke play

• Season passes with a tag are available for $140 until February 28th.  Paypal devensdiscgolf@gmail.com via friends and family.

• Four player pools (A/B/C/D) – Your pool placement will be based on your average score.
Anything under 55.99 and under = A Pool
56 through 61.99 = B Pool
62 through 68.99 = C pool
Anything 69 and over = D Pool
These #'s are for scores on The Hill (standard baskets). You can always play up a division.
.

• A weekly divisional cash payout, an ace pot (capped at $250, will roll over to additional pots if needed.) and a season long points event for all pools. Lots of raffle prizes at end of the year including some big-ticket items. You can pick up your winnings that night or bank winnings for payment at the end of the year.

• Players opting to play on The General will receive a handicap. The handicap will be based on last 3 years of data with nearly 6,000 rounds considered.

• 31 weeks of league play (last day is Wednesday October 9th).

• CASUAL PLAY IS DISCOURAGED ON BOTH COURSES ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS DURING LEAGUE SEASON

• One round of singles

• If you leave before tags are redistributed, get someone to grab it for you. Alternatively, you can grab the highest #'d tag available on the board before you leave.

• Tags are in play for casual rounds and tournaments. Higher tag can challenge a lower tag and under most circumstances, lower tag must accept.

• The auto generated hole assignments are an integral part of keeping league running on time. Please report to your assigned hole at the appropriate time.

• If there is money in the ace pot at the end of the year, we will throw off for it at the Bonanza.

• There will be a year-end Bag Tag Bonanza to end the season. For tag holders only! Date is Sunday October 27th.

• Lots of raffle prizes at the Bag Tag Bonanza. Earn raffle tickets by attending league, hitting an ace. The more you play the better your chances of winning are!

Weekly base cost

• Tagholder: $5 -
$2.25 payout, $1 course funds, $.75 ace pot, $1 Bonanza

• Non-Tagholder: $7 -
$2.25 payout, $3 course funds, $.75 ace pot, $1 Bonanza

Players without a tag aren’t eligible to win the full ace pot, won’t earn raffle entries, won’t accumulate season points and cannot attend the Bag Tag Bonanza.

Women’s entry is always $5.00 though same restrictions apply on ace pot and bonanza for non tagholders.

Prepaid Season Cost

• $140 which includes a 2019 tag and prepaid entry to all 31 Wednesday League nights. 7 weeks of savings if you attend every week.

Optional Pots

• $1 handicap pot league wide* (winner take all unless we start getting many more entries)
• $5 high stakes pot (winner take all unless we start getting many more entries)
*consider last 10 rounds, drop low 2 and high 2 then average other 6 rounds

You can pick up your winnings that night or bank winnings for payment at the end of the year for each of these pots. You can only collect banked winnings at or after the Bonanza. It’s not set up to be a bank you can draw from.

Skills Challenge
A random & quick skills challenge at the end of each night for an additional point in the standings.

Points Series Rules
• We will track points for each player & post the up to date standings here:

• A, B, C & D Pools will have separate standings

We will award points based on the number of places paid out

1 place paid and 1 point for the winner in a division of 5 or less players

3 places paid and awarded points for a division with 6-9 players
1st = 3 points, 2nd = 2 points and 3rd = 1 point

5 places paid and awarded points for a division with 10+ players
1st place = 5 points, 2nd place = 4 points, 3rd place = 3 points, 4th place = 2 points and 5th place = 1 point

• Everyone gets 1 point for playing (you can accumulate up to 25 attendance points)

• Players will be moved into the appropriate division at week 10 and on a case by case basis after that

• Top 3 point earners in each division (or more) will win a cash prize at the end of the season. The season payouts will be a little lower this year to make way for more Bonanza prizes.

• Other ways to gain a point - hit an ace, win the skills challenge.

-----------------
A quick rundown of the changes this year:

Matt Steinberg has agreed to join the rotation of running league. Thanks Matt!

Courses/layouts will rotate on a schedule (ie: Hill only, General only or both in play. Hill layout will rotate as well once we install the new locks.)

Card assignments will rotate on a schedule as well (ie: pick your own or random. Whichever makes the most sense for the scheduled course/layout.)

We will add in some variety rounds (ie: two disc dilemma. These rounds won’t count for average but everything else stays the same.)

We will keep divisions as A/B/C/D but we are going to shift the averages that determine pool placement down a little as shown below.  We will determine your average by raw score so that we can fairly move players divisionally

We want to encourage tag sales, so the system will not calculate points or raffle entries until you have purchased your tag.

We are adjusting the points awarded each night.  The number of points earned will equal the number of places paid out See below for breakdown.

2019 Wednesday Weekly League - Season Passes On Sale Now!

2019 season passes are on sale now!

For $140 you will receive prepaid entry into all 31 weeks of Wednesday League and you will receive your 2019 Bag Tag as well. This is a $175 value (7 weeks of free league play!)

Please paypal the money (using the Friends and Family option) to devensdiscgolf@gmail.com with your name & preferred divisional pool designation for the upcoming season. I can also accept cash at putting league.

All players who purchase a 2019 season pass will be eligible for a special raffle at the Bonanza. The prize? A free 2020 season pass, of course!

The discounted season pass will be offered until the end of February but signing up ASAP is helpful so that I can purchase 2019 tags without any out of pocket expenses.

Bill, Tim, Aaron and I met a few weeks ago to discuss some adjustments to the league structure and I'll put out a post before the end of this weekend with all the league details. Nothing groundbreaking as far as changes go. Biggest adjustments will be less year end payouts for B, C and D pools to make way for more Bonanza money. Also, Matt Steinberg is going to be helping to be joining the staff rotation as well =)

2019 league will begin on March 13th and will run through October 9th. The Bag Tag Bonanza will be held on Sunday October 27th.

Steve Banatoski starts the year off with the #1 tag since he won the season pass at this past Bonanza.

2018 Bag Tag Bonanza Results

Thanks for a great day yesterday! As usual, this was my favorite event of the year as we celebrate another fun league season. We had a good crowd of 58 people and the weather was not too bad. A little drizzle in the morning during check in but otherwise fine. For next year, I'd expect some format changes. We will be meeting soon to discuss everything and we'll keep ya in the loop.

Put your pennies away over the winter for a 2019 season pass. The price of $140 seemed perfect this year as more people participated in the program and the league essentially broke even on the passes. Coming up hopefully before the end of 2018.

I need to thank the several people who donated a ton of the CTP and raffle items. Thanks to The Draegers, Adam Abruzzi, Cooper Arnold, Mark Padilla, Matt Steinberg, Bob Taylor, Bill Bertera, Chris Collette (Hawks Nest Disc Golf), Greg Bianco and Bob Kulchuk. We also had a few mystery donations too.

A million thanks to Tim Seiger, Aaron Little and Bill Bertera for helping to keep this train running. How sweet is Tim's check in system too? We're a couple years into that system now and I can't even think about doing this without it now. We hope you enjoyed the flexibility with the courses and the variety of playing with random/pick your own groups and trickle/shotgun starts towards the end of the year.

See everyone in mid March!

Bag Tag Bonanza - All the Details. Both courses closed until 12:30PM on Sunday October 28th.

This is lengthy but please do read if you are coming to the Bonanza tomorrow!

First things first, the weather looks decent! Should be all cleared up by tee off. Much better than today, that’s for sure!

Reminder that the 2018 Bag Tag Bonanza is going to take place tomorrow, Sunday October 28th. All 2018 bag tag holders are invited to attend. I still have some 2018 tags for sale! $20 each. We will play one final league round of 24 holes (Bonanza Loop is 1-7 on Hill, 13,14,15 General, 10,11,12 General then 8-18 Hill in that order). The courses will be closed to all others until about 12:30pm on Sunday the 28th.

Register between 8am and 9am on Saturday morning. I’ll be set up at the shed. Tee off time is 9:15am. Please just start at 9:15am. No horn

The cost is the usual $5 and you should sign in as you normally would for a league night and we will provide Pizza/Cookies/Drinks for lunch. Participants also receive a player pack (Devens tag logo pint glass and towel). I have 100 of them! If I have extras at lunch, I’ll sell them for $5 per pack.

Please note that we will not be allocating money for the course or this event out of your entry fee so $4 to payout and $1 to ace pot. There won’t be a handicap pool and the pro pool will be handled by an envelope and name system rather than through the registration system (because I pre-registered the divisional leaders and didn’t want to add a step of checking with people)

Season pass holders will have their entry fee paid for by Devens DGC.

ACES (worth additional point in standings & $$)
Pot will start with $0 at the Bonanza and we will throw off for the pot if it does not get hit.

Banked nightly payouts – We will have these ready for pick up on Sunday morning. If you can’t get to the Bonanza I’ll contact you after the event to figure out a way to get the money to you. Amounts are posted here. WeTransfer link below if dropbox doesn’t work.

As of week 31 we have had 1373 players. That's an average of 44.29 per night. We've sold 111 tags. The following players have ended the year with perfect attendance:

Bill Pacheco (2 years)
Greg Bianco (1 year)

As a prize, you’ll get to dig into the CTP prize bin first (Bill) and second (Greg).

Points leaders will be playing on a card with each other. I’ve preregistered each of these players to ensure they end up on the same card. If you can’t make it please let me know:

A pool card – Casey White, Alex Gula, Greg Bianco, Bill Bertera (all confirmed)

B pool card – Brian Dean, Justin Kent, Richard Kuzmitch (all confirmed)

C pool card – Roger Scruton, Mark Padilla, Bret Chisholm, Matt Steinberg (all confirmed)

Here is the list of raffle winners for the smaller items. You can pick your prize(s) up during registration so show up early to get the best selection of prizes. There are 52 discs with several players winning multiple times.

I did the raffle winners using an excel formula in an effort to save time during awards. We will still do a “pick up number” system for the larger items.

CTP Prizes:

There will be various prizes given away via CTP, I’ll do my best to make them divisional and on appropriate holes. When you win a CTP, you will simply pick something out of the CTP Prize box. The selection order will be random.

Random Notes:
Check in using the normal league system. Use “Bonanza” as the course when checking in.

If you get a hole with a “G” next to it, that’s a General hole. All others are Hill.

Get there early for best selection on raffle prize choices.

Banked nightly payouts will be available during registration

Bob Kulchuk is putting together trophies for the divisional season winners, but I dropped the ball and made the request very late. They will be coming soon but they will not be ready for hand off at the Bonanza.
