Bag Tag Bonanza Wrap Up

Thank you to everyone for coming out to the Bag Tag Bonanza yesterday. It was so great to see everyone having fun out there and the perfect weather certainly added to the day as well. We played a modified layout of 24 holes and it proved to be a beast that only a handful tamed! Andy Duquette shot the hot round of 70 (3 under par) to move himself into the season standings payout! No need for an ace pot throw off either as Taylor Maz hit hole 12 on The Hill for the cash money.

I look forward to planning for the 2015 season, there will be some changes for next year that I hope will bring out even more people and provide a bit more fairness. If anyone has any suggestions please share them. I am always happy to hear them and will consider anything as long as it works for everyone.

Bag Tag Bonanza Details Update

The 2014 league season has ended and what a year it has been! We had 1,826 players for an average of about 59 per night when you include all weeks even going back to the 4:15pm starts in March and all of the recent earlier starts.  We also have had 183 individual players this year and have sold 128 tags. These are all incredible stats and huge improvements over last year and I hope we finish the year strong as well!  We will be working hard in the offseason to figure out a way to get more people onto the course(s) for league next year as we are pretty much maxed out now.

We have 1 tag left for sale if you want to play in the Bag Tag Bonanza you will need to be a 2014 tag holder to do so. I'll have the remaining tags for sale leading up to the event. If you participated in league this year but did not buy a tag, now is the time to support your course and get in on this fun event!

Speaking of the 2014 Bag Tag Bonanza. You can register now at http://devensdg.blogspot.com/p/2014bonanza.html . The entry fee and payout structure will be the same as a typical league but given that we are buying lunch for everyone it will be helpful to have you pre register.  The format for the day will be one round on The Hill with 6 holes from The General thrown in for a 24 hole round. Probably going to play it as follows: 1-7 on The Hill, 13, 14, 15, 10, 11 & 12 on The General then 8-18 on The Hill. We will do threesomes to keep things moving. We will have a lunch consisting of pizza/cookies/chips/soda/water followed by season ending point standings awards and we will also give away all of the raffle prizes at this time as well. In case you didn't know, each time you come to league you are entered into the year end raffle for some pretty cool prizes such as a high end bag,  basket and several gift certificates to the Hawks Nest among some other small prizes. The more you came to league the better the chance you have of walking away a winner. How often did you come?

After the final round, lunch and awards we can play some random dubs!

Did I mention that each participant of the Bonanza will be getting a custom stamped Dynamic Disc as a player pack? That alone is triple the value of the $5.00 registration fee which all goes towards payout/CTP/Ace Pot as usual anyway. FREE LUNCH as well!

Final Wednesday League of 2014

We had some nice weather for our last Wednesday league of 2014 and it brought out a big crowd for the 4:15pm start time! 57 players including 3 first timers. No aces so the pot will carry over to the Bag Tag Bonanza in two weeks. If no one hits it then we will do a throw off for it. It should be around $80 for the Bonanza.

Lots of good scores out there this week! Cooper Arnold shoots a 49 for the win and a bump into sole possession of third place in the points standings followed by Bob Kulchuk with his PB 50! Fallon Enman shoots a 58 to crush the ladies pool!

We had another large group even though we have been starting early. 62 players on a nice cool evening! A few personal bests out there but overall the scores were a little on the high side on average. Travis Milem shoots his PB and the the low league score for the year with a 48 and Ben Geddes shoots a 58 for his PB. Maybe some more too? Not sure...

No police came to shut us down this week but I sincerely appreciate you not drinking during awards. It would be a shame to jeopardize league over a beer.. Thanks!!

Well, this week sure was exciting. The state police decided to pay us a visit and the found several players having a relaxing beverage after their round. Unfortunately, this is state property and drinking is illegal in the parking lot. Please refrain from any drinking, etc. While we shouldn't have been drinking there I believe that we weren't treated with fairness and having to shut down the results portion was a big pain in the butt. I owe a lot of people a lot of things. Please help me by collecting the followings items promptly:

John Buonsanto $4

Dexter Laplant $17

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 24 Results - OUR FIRST SELLOUT!

Well, it finally happened. We have come so close to the sell out many times this year but last night was the perfect recipe of great weather and our last 5:30pm start time and the result was a sold out league @ Devens.

I try not to look at the negative aspect of things but I have been a bit upset that I had to turn away Jerel Davis and Alan MacLean from league.  I hope they both understand the restrictions we are under and that the decision to keep it at 72 players was for the greater good...   We are cooking up something next year that should allow for more players to get in on the league action.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 23 Results

Some very heavy rain kept a lot of the players away but we still had 34 very dedicated people show up for league. It poured for about an hour to start but it wasn't bad after that.

Sam Misuraca aced hole 9 for $17 bucks and Christine Reynolds shot another personal best score!

Next week MAY be the last 5:30 start time. It was pretty dark playing the last hole yesterday but play was abnormally slow yesterday for several groups and cards came in about 15 minutes later than normal.

It seems every week someone gets a payout for placing or CTP and doesn't stick around to collect their $.. I know it can get to be a late night with our full group but if you don't pick up your own money or have someone grab it for you it goes into the course funds.

2014 Devens Grant Goes to South Kingstown DGC in Wakefield, Rhode Island

We are happy to announce that the 2014 Devens course grant goes to South Kingstown DGC in Wakefield, RI!

This course is being spearheaded by past-devens local Jimmy Blakeney. Jimmy has done some great work down there in Rhode Island and we couldn't be happier to provide $400 towards a basket on the new course.

Right now, it is a 10 hole course with plans to expand to 18 in the future.

http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=6995

Some quick notes about this grant program. It isn't anything super formal and no requests need to be submitted
for consideration. Our goals are to advance the sport and we hand pick a deserving project based on many criteria. We look at course location, progress being made so far and how much confidence we have in the people spearheading the project.

Last year, we donated $400 to Otter Brook State Park in Keene, NH and the amount of work that has gone into that place so far is mind blowing. We are so proud that we have had at least a very small part in creating that gem.

Anytime, you donate to the course by coming to league, putting money in the pipe, etc. YOU are becoming partly responsible for the growth of disc golf in our area.

Bag Tag Bonanza - Saturday October 25th

In just a few shorts weeks we will need to start whittling back the start time for league. We lose daylight pretty fast in September and a quick check of the sunset times for October says we can only run league until October 9th and that last day might have to be limited to 54 players for speed of play as well. That means there are only 9 league nights left and we will have played 31 in total.

I'm starting to put together plans for our annual end of the year Bag Tag Bonanza and I will be stepping up the prizes big time this year. Because you continue to come out in droves we have really stacked the pot in a huge way. Each week, when you pay your $5 I put aside $1 towards the Bonanza fund. I am estimating that we will have about 1,775 players at league this year(1,325 so far) so immediately there is almost $1800 in the Bonanza pot.  The course will kick in about $1200 bucks as well to bring the total to $3000 set aside for this event.

You will need to pay the usual $5 to play in the Bonanza and all of that money will be paid out as usual with payout by pool, CTP $, ace pot, etc. We will probably have to do this as an online preregistration as we have to limit the event to 72 players and of course, only tag holders will be invited to play.

The event will be one round of singles followed by final tag distribution and payout for that days play. We will provide lunch for all (Pizza, chips, cookies, soda, water, etc). There will be additional CTP prizes and a huge raffle for some big ticket items such as a high end bag, portable basket and several gift certificates to the Hawks Nest among some other small prizes..  You will be entered into the raffle as many times as you have come out to league. So if you have come out to every league this year you will have 31 raffle tickets in the mix..

Of course, this is limited to tag holders only so if you haven't purchased your tag yet you should probably do so at league this week. I have 10 left and each tag costs $20.

So let's recap:

Over $1800 towards end of the year season standings payout and all of the various prizes
A custom stamped player pack disc for all
Free Lunch

I'll open registration in late September so mark Saturday October 25th on your calendar make sure you register quickly on the night registration begins!

Devens Disc Golf on Chronicle!

A few weeks ago we had New England Chronicle (WCVB Channel 5) come out to film some league action and do some one on one interviews with our local players.

I am told that the segment will air this coming Tuesday August 12th at 7:30pm.

Set your DVR and tell all your family and friends about it!

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 22 Results

Weather turned out to be much better than forecast yesterday and we ended up getting 66 players including another 5 to add to the astounding unique player # (now at 164) and the total # of golfers is 1325 (avg per week is 60.22)

Josh St. Denis nailed hole 4 for 68 bucks. Hole 4 has been hit 3 times this season which matches the hole 2 for the most aced hole at league. Thats a bit surprising to me.

It seems every week someone gets a payout for placing or CTP and doesn't stick around to collect their $..  I know it can get to be a late night with our full group but if you don't pick up your own money or have someone grab it for you it goes into the course funds.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 21 Results

A record night at league this past Wednesday. We had 70 players on a night with perfect weather!

I'm a little late getting this done but I heard of lots of personal best scores out there and the average score was pretty low as well. We had 4 new players join us so that makes 159 unique players and 1259 total players. Average of 59.95 per week.

No one hit the ace pot for a change so the pot starts at $35 next week.

Wedensday Weekly League - Week 20 Results

66 players braved another less than stellar forecast and  AGAIN everyone was rewarded with nice conditions. Hot and humid but the storms held off until we were driving home..

Another 7 new players joined us. This brings our total up to 155 unique players this year and 1,189 total players.

Tony Ruschioni aced hole 11 for $33 bucks! Let's take an ace break so we can build the pot again, eh? There have been 10 aces during the 20 weeks of league.

This portion is for those of you who have not purchased your tag yet want to be part of the end of the year end league tournament (Our Annual Bag Tag Bonanza) and all of the player pack goodies, CTP prizes, free lunch and big raffle prizes. You better buy your tag soon. We just sold out of the initial run of 120 tags but don't worry - I just ordered 10 more for you.. Don't make me regret that please =)
