2021 Week 1 League Results

I'd say we had a good starting week last week. Though this new format will take some adjusting, and we'll probably be working out a few kinks as we go, we had 10 rounds on the General and 40 rounds on the Hill! 4 people took advantage of the weather and format to play rounds on both courses, which means we had 46 unique golfers playing a league round this week!

On the General, Ken Gary took down A Pool with a 57, followed by Aaron Little with a 60. Pete Nevius and Travis Millem tied for 3rd with 61. In B Pool, Frank Mooney took first place with a 67, and Tom Travison and Vadim Frishman tied for 2nd with 72.

On the Hill, Ben Maxwell had the hot round in A Pool with a 52, followed by Adam Abruzzi with a 53. Bill Bertera and John Buansanto tied for 3rd with 54. Vadim Frishman took first place in B Pool with a 56. Peter Simone came in 2nd with a 57 and Sean Parlon 3rd with a 59. The Nicks lead C Pool. Nick Ashe in 1st place with a 57! Nick Camilleri in 2nd with 61. Mike Moore and Tim Seiger tied for 3rd with 65. Last but not least, in D Pool, Adam Jacobson and Ashlee Foley tied for first place with 75 and Jean Cleary came in 3rd with 79.

You can see all the scores on UDisc. For the General and the Hill.

2021 League Starts Tomorrow 3/15

Tomorrow starts the first official week of our new, flex start, UDisc league. See this post for all the details.

Bill Bertera has donated a disc to raffle off this first week. Everyone who plays a round will get entered into the raffle, and we'll draw next week. (And if you play a round on both the Hill and the General, you get two entries!)

Last week we had 11 players come out and play 12 rounds. (11 on the Hill and 1 on the General).

In A pool, Aron and Brian tied for first place with 53s on the Hill, and Aaron took down the General with a 59.

Matt won B pool on the Hill with a 59. And Dan and Nick tied for first place in C pool on the hill with 66s.

UDisc Test Week Results

Last week we had an informal test week for league so we could learn how UDisc leagues work. And it went pretty well.

We have to create separate UDisc events for each course, and even though no one played the General last week, we've decided to not try to merge the two courses together each week. That means you are welcome to play both! We'll report the standings for each coarse each week.

Here are the results from last week:

Congrats to Josh, Matt and Nick!

We're running another test week this week. The 2021 League officially starts next week, 3/15!

2021 Weekly League

This year, league is going to have to be a little different. When we suspended the league last year, we were hopeful that we'd be able to go back to normal in 2021. Unfortunately that just isn't the case.

League is the primary course fundraiser, and we really miss you guys. So we aren't going to wait for things to get better to start the 2021 league season. But we are going to have to make some big changes.

First, as we said last year, 2020 tags and season passes are rolling over to this year. We'll be making some 2020->1 tags for everyone.

This year we are going to move to a flex format via UDisc. There will be no weekly payouts or ace pots. We'll post leaderboards each week, and each week you play will earn you a raffle entry for our end of year raffle. We are also planning some spontaneous mid season raffles for everyone who plays that week. At this point we're hoping that things will be safe enough that we can actually have our Bonanza party at the end of the season.

Because we won't be doing any weekly payouts, we've decided to remove the weekly fee and instead ask that everyone buy a tag and pay at least $20 for the season. That will go towards insurance, course improvement, and the raffles. That makes the buy in for this season $20 for a tag, and $20+ for the season.

Please paypal (friends and family) devensdiscgolf@gmail.com and include your UDISC account / email address. We are working on having tags available an Disc Golf 978 as well.

You can find the UDisc page for the league here. We've set up a trial league week for next week. League will officially start on 3/15. Each week, feel free to play your round any time during the week (Monday - Sunday) with whomever you'd like. Card sizes from 1 - 4 are acceptable. Please follow all current Covid-19 guidelines. Be sure to score your round under the UDisc event for that week.

We'll do our best to post the weekly results every Sunday night.

Both Courses are Open

Both The Hill and The General are open for play per the guidelines below. These will also be posted at the course entrance. Thank you all for your patience and adherence to these guidelines.

Please remember, during this period, the course is carry in/carry out all trash and no congregating before or after play..

Both Course still Closed.

Given the recent re-opening of some golf courses, we reached out to Devens to ask about opening back up. Their response is below, but the short answer is, not yet, and they will revisit on May 18.
The state is still restricting active recreational activities that involve the touching of common surfaces. Disc golf baskets would be a common surface that is a potential for contact and spread of the virus. Facilities like golf courses that have been allowed to re-open are allowed to do so only if they adhere to strict management provisions. We appreciate your taking the initiative to develop proposed guidelines however as this course is not actively managed, there are compliance and enforcement concerns. Active recreation facilities throughout the state are temporarily closed until Monday, May 18, 2020, at which time the closure of these facilities will be reassessed. Let’s see what transpires on the 18th and we can revisit this then.
We appreciate your cooperation during this emergency to help protect the health and safety of all Massachusetts residents. Hope you are staying well.
Please continue to respect the course closures. We will reopen as soon as we can do so safely. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

******BOTH COURSES CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE******

Per guidance of the Governor of Massachusetts office to limit recreational activities in order to maintain social distancing, both courses at Devens are closed until further notice. Thanks for your understanding.

Devens Wednesday Weekly League is suspended until further notice.
We will do everything possible to make up as many weeks as we can in October. Hopefully by keeping our distance for now, we'll be able to start up again in a few weeks.
Thanks for understanding.

2020 Wednesday Weekly League Details

We're only about 8 weeks out from the start of Wednesday Weekly league!

With Luke leaving us we've had to make some significant changes and do away with the points system and standings. Below you'll find all of the details of this years league along with a run down of the changes.

The tags should be in within a week or so, and Matt will have them for sale at putting league when they come in.

Bookmark this page for weekly results, layout changes, etc.

Details
• Wednesdays, starting March 11th
• Initial cost: $20 for a 2020 tag
• Start Time - Hill TBD
• Start Time - General TBD
• Style (Trickle, Shotgun, etc.) TBD
• Course Layout TBD
• Format – Singles stroke play

• Season passes with a tag are available for $140 until February 29th.  Paypal devensdiscgolf@gmail.com via friends and family. Please see season pass post for more info.

• Four player pools (A/B/C/D) – Your pool placement will be based on your average score.
Anything under 55.99 and under = A Pool
56 through 61.99 = B Pool
62 through 68.99 = C pool
Anything 69 and over = D Pool
These #'s are for scores on The Hill (standard baskets). You can always play up a division.

We will not be running a points system or have season long standings this year. Instead of cash prizes for the top 3 players of each pool, the $ will go towards weekly payouts and the bonanza. All tag holders who attend the Bonanza will play a "championship" style round for trophies/bragging rights.  Trophies will be handed out to winners of A, B, C, and D pools based on the bonanza loop scores after the round.

• Lots of raffle prizes at end of the year including more big-ticket items. Bonanza raffle entries are awarded by attending league. The more you play, the more chances you have to win a prize. Earn additional raffle entries by winning the skills challenge, or hitting an ace. We want to encourage tag sales, so the system will not start counting your raffle entries until you have purchased your 2020 tag.

• Players opting to play on The General will receive a handicap. The handicap will be based on last 3 years of data with nearly 6,000 rounds considered.

• 31 weeks of league play (last day is Wednesday October 7th).

• CASUAL PLAY IS DISCOURAGED ON BOTH COURSES ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS DURING LEAGUE SEASON

• One round of singles

• If you leave before tags are redistributed, get someone to grab it for you. Alternatively, you can grab the highest #'d tag available on the board before you leave. If you don't grab a tag, take one off the big hook on the door and place it on the board when you sign in next time.

• Tags are in play for casual rounds and tournaments. Higher tag can challenge a lower tag and under most circumstances, lower tag must accept.

• The auto generated hole assignments are an integral part of keeping league running on time. Please report to your assigned hole at the appropriate time.

• If there is money in the ace pot at the end of the year, we will throw off for it at the Bonanza.

• There will be a year-end Bag Tag Bonanza to end the season. For tag holders only! Date is Sunday October 25th.

Weekly base cost

• Tagholder: $5 -
$2.50 payout, $1 course funds, $.75 ace pot, $.75 Bonanza

• Non-Tagholder: $7 -
$2.50 payout, $3 course funds, $.75 ace pot, $.75 Bonanza

Women’s entry is always $5.00 though same restrictions apply on ace pot and bonanza for non tagholders (see next paragraph).

We will have an ace pot this year. If an ace is not hit, the ace pot will roll over every week to a cap of $250. If the roll over is in excess of $250, then additional pots will be added. Tag holders who hit an ace will collect the the ace pot inclusive of roll overs up to $250. Non tag holders will collect only $ put in the pot that evening.

You can pick up your winnings that night or bank winnings for payment at the end of the year. Players without a tag aren’t eligible to win the full ace pot, won’t earn raffle entries, and cannot attend the Bag Tag Bonanza.

Prepaid Season Cost

• $140 which includes a 2020 tag and prepaid entry to all 31 Wednesday League nights. 7 weeks of savings if you attend every week.

You can pick up your winnings that night or bank winnings for payment at the end of the year for each of these pots. You can only collect banked winnings at or after the Bonanza. It’s not set up to be a bank you can draw from.

Skills Challenge
A random & quick skills challenge at the end of each night for an additional raffle entry at the bonanza.
