2018 Bag Tag Bonanza Results

Thanks for a great day yesterday! As usual, this was my favorite event of the year as we celebrate another fun league season. We had a good crowd of 58 people and the weather was not too bad. A little drizzle in the morning during check in but otherwise fine. For next year, I'd expect some format changes. We will be meeting soon to discuss everything and we'll keep ya in the loop.

Put your pennies away over the winter for a 2019 season pass. The price of $140 seemed perfect this year as more people participated in the program and the league essentially broke even on the passes. Coming up hopefully before the end of 2018.

I need to thank the several people who donated a ton of the CTP and raffle items. Thanks to The Draegers, Adam Abruzzi, Cooper Arnold, Mark Padilla, Matt Steinberg, Bob Taylor, Bill Bertera, Chris Collette (Hawks Nest Disc Golf), Greg Bianco and Bob Kulchuk. We also had a few mystery donations too.

A million thanks to Tim Seiger, Aaron Little and Bill Bertera for helping to keep this train running. How sweet is Tim's check in system too? We're a couple years into that system now and I can't even think about doing this without it now. We hope you enjoyed the flexibility with the courses and the variety of playing with random/pick your own groups and trickle/shotgun starts towards the end of the year.

See everyone in mid March!

Bag Tag Bonanza - All the Details. Both courses closed until 12:30PM on Sunday October 28th.

This is lengthy but please do read if you are coming to the Bonanza tomorrow!

First things first, the weather looks decent! Should be all cleared up by tee off. Much better than today, that’s for sure!

Reminder that the 2018 Bag Tag Bonanza is going to take place tomorrow, Sunday October 28th. All 2018 bag tag holders are invited to attend. I still have some 2018 tags for sale! $20 each. We will play one final league round of 24 holes (Bonanza Loop is 1-7 on Hill, 13,14,15 General, 10,11,12 General then 8-18 Hill in that order). The courses will be closed to all others until about 12:30pm on Sunday the 28th.

Register between 8am and 9am on Saturday morning. I’ll be set up at the shed. Tee off time is 9:15am. Please just start at 9:15am. No horn

The cost is the usual $5 and you should sign in as you normally would for a league night and we will provide Pizza/Cookies/Drinks for lunch. Participants also receive a player pack (Devens tag logo pint glass and towel). I have 100 of them! If I have extras at lunch, I’ll sell them for $5 per pack.

Please note that we will not be allocating money for the course or this event out of your entry fee so $4 to payout and $1 to ace pot. There won’t be a handicap pool and the pro pool will be handled by an envelope and name system rather than through the registration system (because I pre-registered the divisional leaders and didn’t want to add a step of checking with people)

Season pass holders will have their entry fee paid for by Devens DGC.

ACES (worth additional point in standings & $$)
Pot will start with $0 at the Bonanza and we will throw off for the pot if it does not get hit.

Banked nightly payouts – We will have these ready for pick up on Sunday morning. If you can’t get to the Bonanza I’ll contact you after the event to figure out a way to get the money to you. Amounts are posted here. WeTransfer link below if dropbox doesn’t work.

As of week 31 we have had 1373 players. That's an average of 44.29 per night. We've sold 111 tags. The following players have ended the year with perfect attendance:

Bill Pacheco (2 years)
Greg Bianco (1 year)

As a prize, you’ll get to dig into the CTP prize bin first (Bill) and second (Greg).

Points leaders will be playing on a card with each other. I’ve preregistered each of these players to ensure they end up on the same card. If you can’t make it please let me know:

A pool card – Casey White, Alex Gula, Greg Bianco, Bill Bertera (all confirmed)

B pool card – Brian Dean, Justin Kent, Richard Kuzmitch (all confirmed)

C pool card – Roger Scruton, Mark Padilla, Bret Chisholm, Matt Steinberg (all confirmed)

Raffle Winners:
Here is the list of raffle winners for the smaller items. You can pick your prize(s) up during registration so show up early to get the best selection of prizes. There are 52 discs with several players winning multiple times.

I did the raffle winners using an excel formula in an effort to save time during awards. We will still do a “pick up number” system for the larger items.

CTP Prizes:

There will be various prizes given away via CTP, I’ll do my best to make them divisional and on appropriate holes. When you win a CTP, you will simply pick something out of the CTP Prize box. The selection order will be random.

Random Notes:
Check in using the normal league system. Use “Bonanza” as the course when checking in.

If you get a hole with a “G” next to it, that’s a General hole. All others are Hill.

Get there early for best selection on raffle prize choices.

Banked nightly payouts will be available during registration

Bob Kulchuk is putting together trophies for the divisional season winners, but I dropped the ball and made the request very late. They will be coming soon but they will not be ready for hand off at the Bonanza.

Wednesday Weekly League - Week 21 Results

66 players on the Commander this week. Wild weather! The forecast improved throughout the day and by the time everyone had tee'd off the chance for a storm was very low. Unfortunately, things didn't turn out as expected and the last groups that went out played at least half the course in the pouring rain and thunderstorms. Most cards played in some wet weather but some of the earlier groups escaped without a drop. 17 people opted not to finish their round and I can't say that I blame them. Those who didn't finish have received their attendance point. There are not any good options for re-configuring results.

Props to Jay Nourse for shooting a 51!

Special League Night on The Commander!

It's Commander week here @ Devens and Wednesday Weekly League will be running mainly on our temporary course.

$5 with a 2018 Devens tag
$7 without a tag
$20 for a 2018 tag

We'll be opening up at 3:45pm on Wednesday and groups can start going out shortly after that time. Registration and last groups out will be at 5:15pm.  The course should take approximately 3 hours to play. On the par 4s, please tee off when the group in front of you is near the basket.

You can pick your own card (foursomes until 5pm, threesomes after 5pm). We will be sending cards out to carefully thought out holes for best course flow so, PLEASE for the love of disc golf, go to your assigned hole right away and start playing.

It'll be helpful if there is at least one person familiar with the new temp course layout on each card but I'll have maps and OB printouts for each card, just in case. Also the important course notes are below.

Players opting to play the Hill:

Check into Commander (with a "pick your own card" shotgun start at 5:15pm) pay $3 instead of $5 so you're eligible for ace pot, attendance point, etc. (I'll account for the lost $2 per person towards payout out of the course funds). You won't be in the running for nightly payout if you play the Hill since we do not have the data to compare The Hill scores to The Commander scores.

I'll automatically DNF Hill players but please do let Tim or Luke know if you got an ace on the Hill ASAP. Your season average will not be affected by the DNF.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Course Notes:

All roads, parking lots and sidewalks (except walkway & stairs on 18) are OB, curbs are considered part of road. Pavement OB not listed below, but comes into play on most holes.

NO DRINKING/DRUGS ANYWHERE ON THE COURSE OR IN PARKING LOT - IMMEDIATE DQ - EVEN IF BEFORE OR AFTER ROUND. No public urination, there are porta-johns around the fields (hole 5, hole 13/16)

1: Tree on left short of corner of parking lot mando to the right - can only cut the corner of the parking lot. Missed mando, rethrow from same mark +1.

5: Over outfield fence is OB, casual relief behind lie if stuck on roof

6: Island green - road and anything on other side of road is OB, also painted circle short is OB - go look first. Anything OB on drive goes to drop zone shooting 3.

8: Over outfield fence is OB

9: Fenced/Barbed-wire area is OB, do NOT retrieve disc. Immediate DQ for going in there. Over fence towards Main St is OB

10: Fenced/Barbed-wire area is OB, do NOT retrieve disc. Immediate DQ for going in there. When complete walk up hill and across road to open field on right for hole 11.

12: Basin is OB, ONLY if roped by league

18: Tee area and pavement to the right of trees are OB. Stairs and walkway from road to near basket are NOT OB. No mando.

Changes to Tonight's League Round

League tonight and the weather doesn't look so hot. As of right now, I'm planning on setting up league central out of the shed near the practice basket.

Given the weather, it would be great to get in and get out tonight so let's plan to bank all payouts and skip the skills challenge tonight. I've also set BOTH courses to trickle start with a waiting room (like we normally do for the General) so cards for both courses can form and go directly out to play. Since we won't be gathering after the round, we won't be taking in tags as you sign in. You can still enter your tag # when you sign in or just leave it blank.

Submit your scores via the DG League wifi system and head home. I'll post results tonight since there won't be any wrap up on site.

The last General groups can go out at 5pm and the last Hill groups can go out at 5:25pm

If the weather looks to be severe, we can discuss canceling the round.

Ace pot # 1 starts fresh again tonight.
